The Story of Determining the Waste Codes
Every year, tons of hazardous waste is generated in our country. It is a necessity to separate these wastes in accordance with the Waste Management Regulation in our country and to send them to licensed facilities. So, how are these wastes classified and what kind of system is followed here?
First of all, let us state that waste codes are prepared in accordance with the waste coding system of the European Union in our country and are compatible with the whole world, but they are not common all over the world.
Coding or listing is a legal and technical process. Coding and listing structures are used according to the waste source and/or content. In this system, a code is assigned to each waste type. The practice developed and maintained by the World Customs Organization is an accepted classification system for most of the goods in international trade.
